The MACU Masters competition is an event that challenges credit union marketers to give their best creative and marketing performances over an eight to ten hour period. Participants are assigned a graphic designer, divided into teams and tasked to help complete comprehensive marketing, advertising and media campaigns for a not-for-profit organization. Charity names, needs and specific tasks are not known in advance and each team's work is judged by a select panel of marketing and communication experts. Two teams work for one charity while two teams work for another charity.
The next competition will be held in Victoria on Monday May 31st, 2010 (day prior to the Victoria conference). Over the past two years this event has attracted over 60 marketers from across Canada. It's an excellent way to meet fellow credit union marketers and to showcase your creative talent to your peers. All Masters participants are introduced at the conference and winning teams are crowned MACU Masters during a conference session that highlights the work of all participants. MACU Masters participants are also treated to an exclusive reception at the end of the competition.
The board of MACU invites you or members of your marketing and communications team to participate in the 2010 event. Its a great way to give back to organizations that desperately need help and do not have access to marketing expertise. MACU Masters sessions in Whistler (2008) and Quebec City (2009) quickly sold out so book your spot early when registration becomes available.
MACU is pleased to announce that Arcas Group Inc. will be the 2010 MACU Masters presenting sponsor. Arcas Group Inc. is an integrated research, consulting, marketing and advertising firm with operations in Regina, Saskatoon and Calgary.
The event challenged credit union marketers’ to give their best creative performances to help complete comprehensive media campaigns for two not-for-profit organizations’ and their marketing & communications needs.
Four teams, each comprised of seven marketers and one graphic designer, competed with limited resources & within a time-limited eight-hour window to vie for the title of MACU Master. The team’s deliverables included communication plans, ideas on how to utilize low-cost & efficient media tactics, and executable creative layouts & graphics.
The two chosen charities were Bay Area Restoration Council, an organization committed to the restoration and protection of Hamilton Harbour and its watershed; and Chemainus Monetary Foundation, a British Columbia community foundation committed to promoting Chemainus’ community currency, the Chemainus Dollar (CH$), in an effort to increase tourism and bring increased business to local area merchants.
The two winning teams were awarded certificates at a presentation showcasing the efforts of all the teams.
This year’s event was hosted and coordinated by the presenting sponsor, Arcas Group, of Regina, SK.
Proving the efforts of MACU Masters can be more than just a one-day networking competition, Read Saskatoon, one of the charities selected in 2009, has already implemented creative and campaign strategies from ideas generated at the event one year ago.
